Superintendent, Refrigeration

Job Summary:

Responsible for the safety, security, and operational efficiency of a 1250-ton industrial refrigeration system. Maintain proper event conditions for 3 NHL sized ice sheets and 400-meter Olympic oval.

Primary Responsibilities include:

This person will report directly to the Olympic Center General Manager and will be primarily responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of a 1250-ton ice-making refrigeration system, a variety of HVAC equipment used throughout the complex, as well as some low voltage electrical work. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and implementing a preventative maintenance program for the above-mentioned equipment and training subordinate staff in the safe and proper operation of a variety of HVAC related equipment. This person will also interface with outside contractors and perform other related duties as assigned. This position will require weekend and holiday work hours as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

Successful completion of an apprenticeship program or a minimum of five years’ experience performing skilled HVAC work for an arena-type facility (or comparable size). Two years’ supervisory experience also required. Candidate must have required EPA Universal Refrigerant license.

Wage/Salary:

This position is identified as a Grade 21 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with a rate of $36.17 per hour. The Olympic Authority offers an excellent benefits package that includes paid leave (sick, vacation, and personal time), health, dental, and vision insurance, participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems, and participation in NYS Deferred Compensation, as defined under the CSEA contract.

CLEANERS

Cleaners’ duties are janitorial in nature (sweeping, mopping, general cleaning, disinfecting, etc.) Successful candidates will also perform other labor-oriented duties as assigned. Nights, weekends and holiday work will be required. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and physically able to perform manual labor including lifting up to 100 lbs. Staff required to work evening/night shifts and/or holidays receive premium pay.

COMPENSATION: Entry rate of $19.96. MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT / EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

Maintenance Assistant/Equipment Operators are responsible for operating a variety of self-propelled equipment as well as construction, operations, repair, and maintenance of equipment. Under the direction of the Olympic Center General Manager, successful candidates will perform a variety of jobs including minor laboring tasks, general maintenance, as well as operation of heavy equipment. In addition to operating a Zamboni, the successful candidate may operate front-end loaders, road-graders, tractor mowers, and snowplows. Nights, weekends and holiday work will be required. Applicants should have at least one year’s experience related to the above and possession of a valid/clean New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. Maintenance Assistants/Equipment Operators are classified as a Grade 13 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $19.96 per hour, plus benefits as defined under the CSEA contract. Premium pay for evening/night work as well as work on holidays.
