Tour Guide Team Lead
Part-Time Year Round
The Olympic Regional Authority (Olympic Authority) manages and operates a variety of venues located in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains in New York consisting of: three alpine skiing venues – Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, Gore Mountain in North Creek, and Belleayre Mountain in Highmount; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mount Van Hoevenberg in the Town of North Elba, a Nordic cross country skiing and biathlon venue; the Olympic Jumping Complex in the Town of North Elba; and the Olympic Oval and Olympic Center in the Village of Lake Placid including three indoor ice skating rinks, the Olympic Museum, and the Lake Placid Conference Center.
Job Summary:
The Tour Guide Team Lead plays a critical role in overseeing the daily operations of the Olympic Center tour program. This is a part time position ranging from 15-30 hours a week and involves not only guiding visitors through the Olympic Center and providing engaging and informative tours but also leading the team of tour guides to ensure the highest quality of visitor experience. The Team Lead will organize and manage tour schedules, train new tour guides, monitor the quality of tours given, and provide ongoing support and feedback to the tour staff. The Team Lead will report to the Venue Business Manager and work closely with all tour guides and other staff.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Supervision and Coordination:
- Organize and manage daily tour schedules, ensuring efficient use of staff resources and optimal visitor experience.
- Train new tour guides, ensuring they are fully prepared and knowledgeable to provide high-quality tours.
- Monitor the quality and consistency of tours given by all guides, providing feedback and coaching as needed.
- Develop and update training materials, scripts, and other resources to maintain tour quality and historical accuracy.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth operations and communication regarding tours and special events.
Visitor Engagement and Support:
- Conduct tours when necessary, sharing interesting and accurate historical facts, anecdotes, and insights about the athletes, events, and significance of the Winter Games.
- Address and resolve visitor concerns or complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
- Promote upcoming tours and special events to visitors, encouraging participation and increasing engagement.
Administrative and Operational Duties:
- Assist in the development and improvement of tour content and materials.
- Maintain records of attendance, feedback, and guide performance to identify areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with the Venue Business Manager to plan and implement new tours or special programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Excellent leadership, communication, and public speaking skills.
- Strong knowledge of Winter Olympics history, particularly the 1980 and 1932 Games, as well as Lake Placid, NY history.
- Ability to engage and entertain diverse groups of visitors.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience in training, mentoring, or coaching staff.
- Ability to handle questions and manage group dynamics effectively.
- Basic first aid training (preferred).
Preferred, but not required:
- Previous experience as a team lead or in a supervisory role.
- Previous experience as a tour guide or in a similar public-facing role.
- Multilingual abilities.
- Experience in historical research or education.
Wage/Salary:
This position is identified as a Grade 15 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $22.43 per hour.

Job Summary: Join our team at the Olympic Center as a Tour Guide, where you’ll lead visitors through the rich history of the Winter Games, focusing on the memorable 1980 and 1932 Winter Olympics. You will play a key role in providing engaging and informative tours, ensuring every visitor leaves with a deeper understanding and appreciation of these historic events. You will work closely with other tour guides and staff to create a memorable and educational experience for all visitors. This is a part-time position of between 10 and 30 hours per week and reports to the Olympic Center Business Manager.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Conduct scheduled tours, sharing detailed and accurate historical information.
- Share interesting and accurate historical facts, anecdotes, and insights about the athletes, events, and significance of the Winter Games.
- Answer questions from tour participants and provide additional information as needed.
- Coordinate with other staff to manage tour schedules and group logistics.
- Maintain a professional and enthusiastic demeanor while interacting with visitors.
- Promote upcoming tours and special events to visitors, encouraging participation and increasing engagement.
- Assist with guest services during downtime, including providing directions, recommendations, and addressing visitor concerns or inquiries.
- Assist in developing and updating tour materials.
- Ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all tour participants.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
- Strong knowledge of the Winter Olympics history, with a focus on the 1980 and 1932 Games.
- Strong knowledge of Lake Placid, NY history.
- Ability to engage and entertain diverse groups of visitors.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle questions and manage group dynamics effectively.
Preferred, but not required:
- Previous experience as a tour guide or in a similar public-facing role.

MEDICAL SUPPORT PERSONNEL
PER-DIEM | PART-TIME
The Olympic Regional Development Authority is in need of a qualified professional to provide medical support at the newly modernized Olympic Center in Lake Placid. The successful candidate will respond to emergency situations, observe and report unsafe conditions, and provide information as well as assistance to the general public. Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have current certifications in CPR for professional rescuer and one of the following: New York State or National Registry EMT-B or above, Outdoor Emergency Care, Wilderness First Responder. Applicants should provide letters of recommendation and references.
WAGE: Entry rate range of $20.83/hr to $30.22/hr depending on skills, qualifications, and experience.

CLEANERS
Cleaners’ duties are janitorial in nature (sweeping, mopping, general cleaning, disinfecting, etc.) Successful candidates will also perform other labor-oriented duties as assigned. Nights, weekends and holiday work will be required. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and physically able to perform manual labor including lifting up to 100 lbs. Staff required to work evening/night shifts and/or holidays receive premium pay.
COMPENSATION: Entry rate of $16.64 – $19.33 depending on skills, qualifications, and experience. ORDA offers an excellent benefit package including paid leave (vacation, holiday, sick and personal time); participation in the NYS and Local Retirement Systems; health, dental, and vision insurances; and optional participation in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.

MAINTENANCE ASSISTANTS / EQUIPMENT OPERATORS
Maintenance Assistant/Equipment Operators are responsible for operating a variety of self-propelled equipment as well as construction, operations, repair, and maintenance of equipment. Under the direction of the Olympic Center General Manager, successful candidates will perform a variety of jobs including minor laboring tasks, general maintenance, as well as operation of heavy equipment. In addition to operating a Zamboni, the successful candidate may operate front-end loaders, road-graders, tractor mowers, and snowplows. Nights, weekends and holiday work will be required. Applicants should have at least one year’s experience related to the above and possession of a valid/clean New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. Maintenance Assistants/Equipment Operators are classified as a Grade 13 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $19.33 per hour, plus benefits as defined under the CSEA contract. Premium pay for evening/night work as well as work on holidays.
