Manager, Business and Guest Operations

The Olympic Regional Authority (Olympic Authority) manages and operates a variety of venues located in the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains in New York consisting of: three alpine skiing venues – Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, Gore Mountain in North Creek, and Belleayre Mountain in Highmount; the Olympic Sports Complex at Mt Van Hoevenberg in the Town of North Elba, a Nordic cross country skiing and biathlon venue; the Olympic Jumping Complex in the Town of North Elba; and the Olympic Oval and Olympic Center in the Village of Lake Placid including three indoor ice skating rinks, the Olympic Museum, and the Lake Placid Conference Center.

Position Overview

The Business and Guest Operations Manager at the Olympic Center in Lake Placid is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial and administrative operations of the center. This position ensures the efficient running of all business functions, including budgeting and financial reporting. The Business and Guest Operations Manager reports to the Olympic Legacy Sites Business and Guest Operations Manager and Olympic Center General Manager and works closely with department heads, ensuring alignment with the center’s strategic goals and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Business and Guest Operations Manager is pivotal in maintaining the fiscal health and operational efficiency of the Olympic Center. Regular duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing and managing the center’s annual budget, ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Overseeing financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, and presenting reports to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
  • Managing procurement processes, including vendor negotiations, contract management, and inventory control, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
  • Assisting the human resources function, including recruitment and employee relations.
  • Implementing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard the center’s assets and ensure the integrity of financial transactions.
  • Collaborating with the marketing and events teams to develop and implement strategies to increase revenue and enhance the center’s profile.
  • Leading and managing a team of administrative and operating staff dedicated to supporting the guest experience, providing mentorship, performance evaluations, and professional development opportunities.
  • Regularly reviewing and improving operating and business processes and standards to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, as well as guest engagement, across the organization.

Skills and Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a business management role, preferably within a nonprofit or public sector organization.
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Preferred, but not required:

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in the sports or recreation industry.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit financial management and grant administration.

Salary Range and Benefits:

This position has a minimum salary of $64,510 and a maximum salary of $92,894 per year. The hiring range for this specific position is $68,000 – $72,000 per year. Final offer will be within the hiring range and will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

THIRD SHIFT SUPERVISOR

The Olympic Center, located in beautiful downtown Lake Placid, NY, is seeking a full-time Third Shift Supervisor to oversee and support night cleaners and provide routine security for the venue.

Responsibilities include supervising the overnight shift consisting of cleaners; helping the overnight shift by picking up garbage and recycling, cleaning restrooms, restocking paper products, sweeping, mopping, using the floor machine, vacuuming, dusting, cleaning windows and doors; providing status reports; conducting shift change meetings; and conducting regular security sweeps of the building and reporting emergency situations to appropriate personnel.

Qualifications: One year supervising maintenance crews or two years’ experience in the construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities at the journeyman level. Appropriate education may be substituted for up to half the operating experience. Must be able to work independently or as a part of team and be reliable. Applicants must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Compensation: Starting rate is $26.03/hr . MEDICAL SUPPORT PERSONNEL

PER-DIEM | PART-TIME

The Olympic Regional Development Authority is in need of a qualified professional to provide medical support at the newly modernized Olympic Center in Lake Placid.  The successful candidate will respond to emergency situations, observe and report unsafe conditions, and provide information as well as assistance to the general public.  Schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must have current certifications in CPR for professional rescuer and one of the following: New York State or National Registry EMT-B or above, Outdoor Emergency Care, Wilderness First Responder. Applicants should provide letters of recommendation and references.

WAGE: Entry rate range of $20.83/hr to $30.22/hr depending on skills, qualifications, and experience.

CLEANERS

Cleaners’ duties are janitorial in nature (sweeping, mopping, general cleaning, disinfecting, etc.) Successful candidates will also perform other labor-oriented duties as assigned. Nights, weekends and holiday work will be required. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and physically able to perform manual labor including lifting up to 100 lbs. Staff required to work evening/night shifts and/or holidays receive premium pay.

COMPENSATION: Entry rate of $16.64 – $19.33 depending on skills, qualifications, and experience. MAINTENANCE ASSISTANTS / EQUIPMENT OPERATORS

Maintenance Assistant/Equipment Operators are responsible for operating a variety of self-propelled equipment as well as construction, operations, repair, and maintenance of equipment. Under the direction of the Olympic Center General Manager, successful candidates will perform a variety of jobs including minor laboring tasks, general maintenance, as well as operation of heavy equipment. In addition to operating a Zamboni, the successful candidate may operate front-end loaders, road-graders, tractor mowers, and snowplows. Nights, weekends and holiday work will be required. Applicants should have at least one year’s experience related to the above and possession of a valid/clean New York State Driver’s License appropriate for the type of vehicle operated. Maintenance Assistants/Equipment Operators are classified as a Grade 13 on the ORDA/CSEA schedule with an entry rate of $19.33 per hour, plus benefits as defined under the CSEA contract. Premium pay for evening/night work as well as work on holidays.
