Overview

Roamers Lake Placid - Logo“You have to be uncommon,” said Herb Brooks, head coach of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team.

Though he wasn’t talking about food, he could well have been talking about Roamers, the new café and bar in the Olympic Center’s Miracle Plaza. Named for the independent New York Rangers ice hockey farm team that called Lake Placid home from 1946 to 1952, there’s nothing regular about Roamers.

The Café & Bar is located in an expansive new space with a sleek and contemporary vibe, steps away from two historic ice arenas and overlooking a third. Here, you’ll find casual, lip-smacking-good food and drinks served alongside eye-popping, panoramic views of the Olympic Village and the Adirondacks highest peaks.

The Menu is casual and meant to satisfy, with both locally and internationally inspired menu selections. Take it to go, or dine in and savor a good wine or cocktail too. The totality of the experience is pleasing in every way you could expect from a simple bite to eat.

Coach Brooks also said, “Great moments are born from great opportunities,” and this is one opportunity to add a few great moments to life you just have to discover for yourself.

History

The Lake Placid Roamers

Hockey holds a special place in Lake Placid’s history. In fact, the most iconic moment in sports in the 20th Century – the Miracle on Ice – still echoes in the High Peaks surrounding our beautiful village.

From the 1932 Games to the 1980 Games to pond hockey to collegiate and CanAm tournaments, this is a game woven into the fabric of our community.

Among the key local moments on hockey’s historical timeline is the creation of the Lake Placid Roamers, a New York Rangers farm team that excited crowds in the ‘32 Rink from 1946 to 1952. And while the Roamers were often associated with the big leagues, an undeniable sense of community pride made every game something special for those who lived in that era. For more than 90 years, hockey has been one of those things that’s always brought people together in Lake Placid. Players, coaches, crews, and spectators alike.

Our rich hockey tradition is a treasure trove of memories, and the Roamers team is a vital part of both our legacy and our future. We’re proud the Roamers name lives on in a place where future hockey stars and fans will come together in the decades to come.
